Chicago workers' compensation lawyer Richard E. Aleksy, a partner of the law office of Corti, Aleksy and Castaneda (http://www.workcompguys.com), has been appointed by Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to be one of only twelve people on the Illinois Workers' Compensation Advisory Board, effective immediately. The duties of the Advisory Board, according to Governor Quinn’s July 20, 2011 press release, include making recommendations on the appointments of arbitrators, as well as assisting the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission in “formulating policies, setting priorities, and developing administrative goals.”
Furthermore, the Illinois Workers' Compensation Advisory Board “consists of 12 members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Members are unpaid, but may have expenses reimbursed. Six board members represent employees, and six represent employers; the structure is designed to balance the concerns of businesses, while continuing critical protections for workers.”
In effect, Richard Aleksy is one of only six individuals in the entire state of Illinois who have been chosen to represent the interests of injured workers on the Workers' Compensation Advisory Board. “It’s an honor that the Governor chose to include me in this prestigious group,” stated Mr. Aleksy. This coincides with Illinois House Bill 1698 that Governor Quinn signed in June 2011, which made several monumental changes to the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act. Governor Quinn commented on the qualifications of the twelve Advisory Board members as a whole, saying, “Each of these appointees brings the knowledge and experience to support us in reforming Illinois’ workers’ compensation system.” Richard Aleksy certainly brings Illinois workers' compensation knowledge and experience, as he has 35 years of experience in handling Illinois workers' compensation claims, representing injured workers with great success before the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission, Circuit Courts, the Appellate Court, and the Supreme Court of Illinois.
